Once upon a time, back in the early 1990s - when Amazon was just a really long river - Canadian grocers feared the inevitable arrival of the so-called "Category Killers." A couple of decades later, the retail landscape has changed to accommodate today's busy price-conscious consumer: Walmart is the largest food retailer in North America, while dollar stores represent the fastest growing brick-and-mortar channel...not to mention what's going on in the digital sphere...
To succeed, brands need to be aware of these new channels: to know where consumers are going for products, to understand how the consumer uses different channels for different purposes.
